Latvia reaffirms support for Zaporizhzhia during high-level visit
Last week, a delegation from the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia — led by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Andris Pildegovičs and Defence Advisor Colonel Raivis Melnis — visited Zaporizhzhia. Representatives of the City Development Institute of Zaporizhzhia, including Director Viktoria Agientaieva and Regional Development Manager Anhelina Obraztsova, also participated in the visit.
The delegation visited Elint College, one of the educational institutions within Zaporizhzhia’s network of safe schools. The college features an underground teaching facility fully equipped to ensure a safe and accessible learning environment. Thanks to this infrastructure, students can continue their studies even during air raid alerts.
The Latvian representatives also inspected the aftermath of Russian shelling by visiting a damaged residential building. They saw firsthand how the community is addressing wartime challenges, supporting residents, and continuing efforts to rebuild the city.
Zaporizhzhia continues to demonstrate resilience, solidarity, and readiness for development — even under frontline conditions. Cooperation with Latvia strengthens the ties between our countries and supports the exchange of experience in security, education, and recovery.
