Preparing for Winter Emergencies (video)

Zaporizhzhia has entered another wartime winter, bringing additional challenges for the city and its residents. In a video on municipal TV, representatives from city departments and enterprises tell how international partners are aiding in our preparations for emergencies.

Last year, Zaporizhzhia received 53 generators from international partners. They were allocated to the city’s Points of Invincibility, critical infrastructure facilities, and utility companies that respond to emergencies. Under the coordination of the City Development Institute of Zaporizhzhia, all municipal enterprises were supplied with fuel for these generators.

Generators have been arriving throughout the year, and now, thanks to the City Development Institute and their partners from UCBI, we received fuel for them. This allows us to be prepared for emergencies and assist visitors at our Points of Invincibility, says Oleksiy Kanishchev, Director of the Tourist Information Center.

We have approximately 115 Points of Invincibility since 2022. During the summer, they were put into sleep mode, but we reactivated them before winter, and their number even increased. Now, we have the opportunity to obtain fuel for refueling generators today and create some reserves, continues Kateryna Pudak, a consultant at the City’s Professional Development Center for Pedagogical Staff.

Zaporizhzhia received fuel coupons for generators from the USAID’s Ukraine Confidence Building Initiative (UCBI). Our partners donated 21 tons of fuel, including diesel and gasoline, to ensure the smooth operation of power devices.

While the city has some fuel reserves, this assistance is significant for us. With over 200 Points of Invincibility operational, including hospitals and critical infrastructure facilities, additional energy sources are crucial in winter. Naturally, we hope for the best, but considering the recent terrorist attacks, we must ensure that our utilities and Points of Invincibility are fully operational, says Viktoriia Agientaieva, Director of the City Development Institute of Zaporizhzhia.

Currently, there are more than 230 Points of Invincibility in Zaporizhzhia, with 170 equipped at city schools and cultural facilities by the municipality.

In emergencies, Zaporizhzhia residents can find warmth, drink hot tea or coffee, charge their devices, and receive first aid at these locations.
