Zaporizhzhia delegation pays working visit to Ogre, Latvia

From 14 to 17 December, a delegation of the Zaporizhzhia City Council paid a working visit to Ogre, Latvia, marking an important step in strengthening cooperation between the two communities.

During meetings with the leadership of the Ogre municipality, the Ukrainian delegation shared updates on the security and socio-economic situation in Zaporizhzhia, wartime challenges, and the work of city authorities under full-scale invasion. Special focus was placed on the role of municipalities in ensuring community resilience and supporting residents.

The programme included visits to municipal, educational, and cultural institutions, as well as discussions on modern solutions in energy efficiency and waste management. The Zaporizhzhia delegation also studied Ogre’s approaches to sustainable development, environmental protection, and infrastructure planning — key areas for Ukraine’s recovery.

The visit concluded with discussions on future cooperation, particularly in civil protection, municipal governance, and support for the Zaporizhzhia community. The experience gained will form the basis for joint initiatives and projects.

The municipality of Ogre has supported Ukraine since 2015, with this assistance becoming systematic after 24 February 2022 through the involvement of local authorities, residents, businesses, and civil society.

For Zaporizhzhia, international municipal partnerships are a practical tool for strengthening community capacity and advancing a shared European future.
