Young people from Zaporizhzhia visited Magdeburg for two summer break weeks

The International Youth Meeting Center Barleber See, located in Magdeburg, hosts an annual summer holiday camp for local young people. This summer, students from Zaporizhzhia joined their German peers upon the invitation of Lord Mayor Simone Borris.

The youth meeting center is situated in the recreational area of Magdeburg, on the shores of Barleber See Lake. The summer camp offers various activities and entertainment for young people to relax and socialize, including sports activities, games, campfires, barbecues, and more.

Both delegations from Zaporizhzhia went on a sightseeing tour of Magdeburg and visited the City Hall, where they met with Mayor Simone Borris and Deputy Mayor Regina-Dolores Stieler-Hinz. The visitors also signed the guest book of the state capital Magdeburg.

The summer camp project for children from Zaporizhzhia was made possible thanks to donations received in the Ukrainian charity account of the state capital Magdeburg. The German partners covered all expenses for the children’s stay at Barleber See, including accommodation, meals, and a leisure program.

“Many thanks from parents for the two weeks of wonderful rest, new friends, unforgettable impressions, and care! Our children are very happy,” commented Violetta Shyhina, whose daughter Polina, a high school student, was among the guests in Magdeburg.

The Department of Education and Science of Zaporizhzhia City Council helped organize groups of children, find supervisors from among German-speaking teachers, and plan the travel. The City Development Institute assisted in communicating with Magdeburg partners, providing documentation support, and resolving other organizational issues.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the state capital Magdeburg, Mayor Simone Borris, the Mayor’s department on town twinning, and the administration of the International Youth Meeting Center for their cooperation and hospitality.

Your friendship and support are invaluable to Zaporizhzhia and its community.
