Zaporizhzhia struck by rocket fire: Coordinated humanitarian response to support people

On October 10, one of the districts of Zaporizhzhia came under rocket fire, prompting an immediate response from the City Development Institute of Zaporizhzhia and its partners. Together with city units and charitable foundations, we have developed a coordinated action plan to assist the victims and minimize the negative impacts of this tragic event.

The Department of Social Protection has deployed buses to the affected area, providing residents with access to counseling and first aid. Social workers are also distributing long-term food kits from the Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) and drinking water supplied by UNICEF.

In addition, Caritas Zaporizhzhia has provided essential repair and construction kits—comprising film, OSB boards, beams, foam, and more—to help restore damaged housing. This support is crucial as autumn approaches, making prompt repairs necessary.

The Right to Protection Charitable Foundation is offering psychological, legal, and social assistance to the victims while also monitoring their ongoing needs. Meanwhile, the NGO BELUGA UA is helping by providing hot lunches and drinks to those affected.

The mobile team from ‘Posmishka UA,’ made up of social experts, including a psychologist, social worker, case manager, and facilitator, is on the ground to support victims in their most difficult moments.

The Proliska Zaporizhzhia Humanitarian Center has also stepped in to provide psychological support aimed at stabilizing people’s emotional well-being. Their social workers have conducted 65 consultations on registering property damage and accessing assistance, in addition to distributing emergency repair materials, including 315 pieces of plastic tarpaulin and 34 ESK construction kits.

This collaborative effort highlights the coordinated work of utilities, institutions, organizations, and foundations dedicated to supporting our community.
