Diplomatic Mission to the U.S.: New opportunities for development of Zaporizhzhia

Zaporizhzhia is expanding its network of international partnerships to drive reconstruction and development.

In late September, the City Development Institute of Zaporizhzhia took part in a significant diplomatic mission to the United States. Held in Washington, D.C., the International Trade Mission ‘Ukraine Renaissance’ convened for a week with the goal of fostering new partnerships between Ukrainian and American cities, government organizations, and businesses to jointly support Ukraine’s recovery. The mission was organized by the Washington Institute for Business, Government and Society (USA), the Mayors Club Ukraine, and Economy of Trust Inc.

Victoria Agientaieva, Director of the City Development Institute of Zaporizhzhia, was actively involved in the mission’s events. A key highlight was the Ukrainian Economic Conference at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), where participants explored practical solutions for strengthening Ukraine’s energy system, rebuilding urban infrastructure, and engaging U.S. support in the country’s reconstruction efforts.

For Zaporizhzhia, this conference provided a unique platform to engage directly with U.S. government organizations, share the region’s needs, and offer American partners firsthand insights into the challenges our city faces.

In addition to the conference, the Ukrainian delegation met with teams from international foundations and U.S. government agencies that are dedicated to supporting Ukraine’s democratic development. Key partners included the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF), the Peace Corps, and others.

Building international partnerships is a vital part of our mission. Thanks to the support of our global partners, we are able to launch new projects, enhance city services, and secure additional funding to drive Zaporizhzhia’s development.
