World Town Twinning Week. Zaporizhzhia — Oberhausen 2,434 km of gratitude

Last Sunday of April, the world celebrates Town Twinning Day. And we are delighted to congratulate and thank our partner cities on this occasion.

Zaporizhzhia has quite a history of cooperation with twin cities. Over the past year, we could appreciate the true value of such inter-municipal friendship and partnership. Our twin cities were the first to give us a helping hand when the full-scale military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine began.

One of these friendship cities is Oberhausen, which has always been our reliable partner. These days, the municipality and volunteers often organise solidarity campaigns and events involving the Ukrainian community. German partners contribute to strengthening municipal services and medical facilities in Zaporizhzhia, donate important equipment to our rescuers and help us apply for international assistance programmes.

Also, in March, our friends in Oberhausen helped to organise a training camp for the youth rowing club from Zaporizhzhia.

We sincerely thank the city administration and citizens of Oberhausen for their solidarity and support of Ukraine’s sovereignty. We believe the friendship between our cities will last a long time and only grow stronger. On behalf of the city of Zaporizhzhia, we wish peace and happiness to the people of Oberhausen.
