German cities support hospitals in Zaporizhzhia (video)
Doctors in Zaporizhzhia have received new ambulances. The four vehicles will work at city hospitals No. 1, No. 7, and No. 8, as well as Maternity Hospital No. 9. They were donated by the city of Oberhausen.
“We extend our gratitude to our twin cities, especially Oberhausen, for their immense support to Zaporizhzhia and its healthcare facilities,” says city secretary Anatolii Kurtiev.
The ambulances are equipped with medical devices to provide emergency care, including stretchers, accessories for safe patient transfer, oxygen cylinders, ventilators, and multiple lighting modes. And medicines will be supplied by the hospitals. Doctors emphasize that these vehicles will assist in transporting seriously ill patients and delivering emergency care on call.
“These ambulances are essential for healthcare facilities because they give us an opportunity to offer care to seriously ill patients. This includes transporting them to other hospitals, if necessary, or taking palliative care patients home or for hospitalization,” says Iryna Smyrnova, director of City Hospital No. 7.
Previously, Zaporizhzhia received a minibus from its twin city, Magdeburg, which was handed over to social services. The city secretary commended the quality of the donated vehicles:
“I personally drove a Ford from Germany to the Ukrainian border, where this car was handed over. It was a great experience because the Ford is brand new. We received it as part of an international aid program supported by the German government. Our partner city purchased it to further transfer it to Zaporizhzhia. There is a lot of support that we receive from our twin cities.”
Thanks to the ambulances, the work of doctors will be much more manageable, they assure. Now they will not only be able to transport patients to the hospital faster but also provide better emergency care.
