World Town Twinning Week. Zaporizhzhia — Ashdod: 3,451 km of gratitude

Our celebratory marathon dedicated to World Twin Cities Day is about to end. And we are closing it with warm greetings to Zaporizhzhia’s twin city in Israel.

Ashdod and Zaporizhzhia have been twinned since 2011, so it is the youngest partnership for our city so far. The twinning agreement was signed while the Israeli delegation led by the Mayor of Ashdod was visiting Zaporizhzhia.

Interestingly, the City Council chose Zaporizhzhia from all Ukrainian municipalities during the international tourist exhibition in Ashdod. Perhaps, this was because the city had a strong community of people from Zaporizhzhia. Modern Ashdod is a major industrial centre with the largest river port in Israel. There are also plenty of cultural attractions here: museums, theatres, creative and art spaces. Ashdod is well known among music lovers since it hosts many national and international music festivals.

The city of Zaporizhzhia looks forward to continuing its fruitful cooperation with Ashdod. We believe this partnership will bring many inspiring projects. Surely, our cities have some valuable experience and expertise to exchange.

We greatly appreciate the friendship and partnership with our twin city in Israel. On this World Twin Cities Day, we send our kindest regards to the people of Ashdod and wish them peace, prosperity, a happy present and a successful future.
