Zaporizhzhia and Oberhausen: A cultural partnership that inspires hope

The partnership between sister cities, Zaporizhzhia and Oberhausen, continues to show how genuine support and cultural cooperation can achieve meaningful outcomes, even in the most challenging of times.

In February, young musicians from Zaporizhzhia Children’s Music School No. 5, accompanied by representatives of the City Department of Culture and Tourism, took part in a commemorative event in Oberhausen marking the anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Held at Oberhausen Theater, it served as a powerful symbol of remembrance, unity, and creative dialogue between the two cities. During the evening, attendees were also invited to donate in support of the music school.

Today, we are pleased to announce the fruits of that solidarity: thanks to the German integration association Gromada.ua and generous donors from the Oberhausen Theater, Music School No. 5 has received a set of new, modern synthesizers. These instruments represent more than just tools for music—they offer new opportunities for learning, creativity, and hope for children growing up in a city that fights for its future every day.

The City Development Institute of Zaporizhzhia extends its heartfelt thanks to all partners involved in this meaningful initiative. We deeply value the support of our friends from Oberhausen and Gromada.ua—a shining example of cross-border solidarity in action.

Together, we are building cultural bridges that foster understanding and help pave the way toward a brighter future.
