Austrian support powers critical infrastructure in Zaporizhzhia
The city of Linz, Austria, has donated two generators to Zaporizhzhia’s municipal transport company, Zaporizhzhelektrotrans. The purchase and delivery were made possible thanks to funding from a city-owned company, LINZ AG, and logistical support from Hilfswerk International in Ukraine.
Generators play a vital role in maintaining the stability of critical infrastructure during power outages. For Zaporizhzhelektrotrans, these devices will help ensure the continuity of essential operations, including communication with drivers and coordination with control centers.
Despite the challenges of wartime, the transport company—whose fleet includes buses, trolleybuses, and trams—continues to operate reliably. Drivers are trained in emergency protocols, including procedures during air raids and basic first aid. Thanks to assistance from international partners, the enterprise is strengthening its technical base and improving services for city residents. Recent improvements include new office equipment to enhance administrative operations, upgrades to transportation network management, and the introduction of a passenger feedback system.
Support for municipal enterprises like Zaporizhzhelektrotrans is an investment in the resilience of Zaporizhzhia and the well-being of its residents.
Zaporizhzhia and Linz have been sister cities since 1983. In May 2024, during International Summit of Cities and Regions in Kyiv, City Council Secretary Regina Kharchenko and Dietmar Prammer—who became Mayor of Linz in February—signed an updated Cooperation Action Plan. An online meeting is planned in the coming months to discuss the next steps in bilateral cooperation.
The City Development Institute of Zaporizhzhia expresses its sincere gratitude to its international partners and sister cities. In these difficult times, every gesture of solidarity contributes meaningfully to the city’s sustainable future.
