Support and solidarity for Zaporizhzhia
To commemorate the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, cultural events were held across Europe as a testament to the resilience of the Ukrainian nation and its ongoing struggle for freedom.
On February 24, our twin city in Germany, Oberhausen, hosted a special charity concert. The event featured Ukrainian performers temporarily residing in Germany alongside artists from the Oberhausen Theater. In a powerful gesture of solidarity, the theatre building was illuminated in the colours of the Ukrainian flag that evening.
Thanks to the kind invitation of the organizers, young musicians and representatives of Zaporizhzhia’s Department of Culture and Tourism were able to join this cultural event. A standout moment of the evening was the performance by Zaporizhzhia bandura player Alyona Kosarieva, who captivated the audience with traditional and contemporary Ukrainian songs, accompanied by electronic music recorded by her brother, Mykhailo Kosariev.
Additionally, guests from Zaporizhzhia shared insights into life in the frontline city and how culture, art, and education continue to persevere during wartime.
Solidarity events like these play a vital role in supporting Ukraine’s efforts to defend its identity and cultural heritage. We sincerely thank all the organizers and partners who made this event possible.
The concert was organized in cooperation with the Büro für Interkultur Oberhausen, the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Zaporizhzhia City Council, the Oberhausen Theater, and the Ukrainian community organization Gromada.UA in Germany.
