Celebrating Europe Day 2024
May 9th marks Europe Day, a celebration symbolizing unity and peace across Europe.
This date commemorates a significant milestone in the formation of the European Union—the signing of the Schuman Declaration in 1950. This document laid the groundwork for cooperation among European nations and fostered peace and prosperity throughout the region.
In Zaporizhzhia, we also celebrate Europe Day. This occasion holds particular significance for us because Ukraine and the European Union share not only common values, aspirations, ideas, history, and culture but also a steadfast commitment to preserving them.
Zaporizhzhia has a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with twin cities across Europe.
Magdeburg and Oberhausen in Germany have already implemented many successful cultural projects with us. Our partners also help strengthen healthcare institutions and assist us in providing social support to the people of Zaporizhzhia.
Lahti in Finland has been our partner since 1953. Together, we engage in joint projects and exchange experiences.
Our partnerships with Linz in Austria and Belfort in France are also important aspects of our international relations. They offer support in various areas, ranging from cultural exchange to humanitarian aid.
Today, when peace is so fragile and therefore especially valuable, we wish all European states and our twin cities, in particular, strength, unity, and a shared commitment to protect it.
